Well. I have a great deal to say about this topic, as I’ve been fascinated with sex for as long as I can recall. For whatever reason, I was extremely curious and never got straight answers as a child, which sent me on a lifelong search mission to understand all that I possibly could. This has made for a rich and complex life, full of adventure and discovery.
Once the idea of ‘sex sells’ made it’s debut in the 1940s, America became inundated with images of the idealized beauty of women. There’s an estimate that approximately once every 8 minutes throughout a man’s work day, he is hearing a sexy voice or seeing a sexualized image of the female form. The only purpose of this is to sell him something, and is a form of cultural programming. The damage done to individual women and girls is deep and toxic. It’s hard for a woman to NOT compare herself to these cultural images and judge her own precious body as less than ideal. This has become a huge imprint on the potential for sexual pleasure, for both men and women.
