I never saw a thing wrong with hippie values, and have kept many of them to this very day. What the H**L is wrong with peace, love, compassion and connection? Do we really prefer war, hatred, meanness and isolation?
My time at Naropa University, focused on the Peace and Conflict Studies curriculum gave me a beautiful way to integrate a lot of my philosophy about things and have a better sense of what us peaceful folks are up against. Why is it the Lovers are often assassinated, crucified, tortured to death and ostracized? What is it in human nature that turns away from comfort, pleasure, kindness and gentleness? How do we heal the compunction to cause harm as a first response? I ask these things for myself and about others. I know that trauma plays a big part in our ability to relate in kind and caring ways.
